The Rose – Bette Midler

June 17th, 2010 | by admin |

From Divine Madness

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you it’s only seed.

It’s the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It’s the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It’s the one who won’t be taken,

who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin’
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snow
lies the seed that with the sun’s love
in the spring becomes the rose.

i’m confused with the lyrics. why is it “I say love it is a flower and you it’s only seed”, shouldn’t it make more sense if it is “I say love it is a flower and you, ITS only seed”?

    I received an email …
I received an email about an 87 year old lady, who was attending college. She befriended THOUSANDS of college students while attending. They asked her to speak at the Graduation Ceremony. At the end of her speech, she sang this song. One week after she graduated and got her degree, she passed away peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it’s never too late to be all you can possibly be.
